Owing to its high thermal conductivity, high electrical conductivity, high strength, and low weight, graphene is a popular additive of choice for advanced composite materials.   This recorded webinar highlights multiple applications of the Modified Transient Plane Source (MTPS) as a method for characterizing the thermal conductivity performance improvement of graphene composites.

The presentation reviews work from Turkey where researchers confirmed that loading chitosan with graphene increases its thermal conductivity and a variety of other thermoelectric properties. These composite materials can be utilized to improve the performance of biologically-benign materials for use in biomedical and biomechanical applications.

The presenter then reviews work from China where researchers investigated the performance of graphene-loaded ternary composites, confirming that ternary composites tend to show synergistic effects in the thermal conductivity performance improvement. 


Additionally, work from Korea towards the development of advanced polymer-based lightweight thermoelectrics, using graphene to improve the electrical conductivity and Sievert’s coefficient of the materials is reviewed.
